While the Illinois basketball team is up in the Chicago area, they have offered a few scholarships to big-time recruits.

One offer that was handed out was to Ahamad Bynum. This was an offer to a player who could help this team in the future, but getting him would also help reconnect a historical pipeline between his high school and the Illinois program.

Bynum is a 6-foot-1, 175-pound shooting guard from Simeon High School in Chicago, Illinois. He isn’t rated or ranked yet because 247Sports hasn’t filled out their class of 2021, but he is a player who is starting to have the scholarships come in.

It looks like Bynum has two offers right now. One was from Illinois and the other is from the local program, DePaul. Both programs are major DI schools, so I expect others to jump in soon as well.

Bynum is a little undersized for a No. 2 guard at the next level, but he is still young and will probably grow an inch or two over the next few seasons. With that being said, I don’t think his size is going to matter too much. This kid is pretty talented.

You can tell the game comes easily to Bynum. He has a nice flow to his game. He has a great shot from deep and is confident in his abilities. He is a player who can put up points in bunches for the Illini. That is what I am looking for. I like what he can do on the court, and I believe he can help Illinois early on in his career.

When 2021 rolls around, most of the players on the roster right now will have departed. There is no telling who is going to be starting that year, but having someone like Bynum come aboard would give the program some security in their ability to shoot the ball.

I would love to snag Bynum because it would help mend a tense relationship between the Illinois program and Simeon as well. There have been some issues with recruiting Simeon players the last, roughly, decade. It would be nice to see everything get back in good-graces there.

I like Bynum. His game is something I want on the Illini. He could be an asset to this program in the future. The scholarship offer to him this early in the game is a great idea.
