The Illinois football team moved a step closer to landing a big-time player for the future on Wednesday.

Back on December 19, 2018, Keith Miller III announced on Twitter that he had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. This was a big offer at the time. Illinois has done even more work to land this talented recruit since then. That is one of the reasons Miller has now kept the Illini in his top eight.

On Wednesday afternoon, Miller released the eight programs who will be vying for his commitment. The list includes Colorado, SMU, Texas Tech, Kansas, Washington State, Tulsa, Kansas State and Illinois. These are some pretty solid teams for the Illini to be going up against, but I feel like we have a legit shot here.

Miller is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver from The Colony High School in The Colony, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 938 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 156 wide receiver in the nation. He is also the No. 123 player in the state of Texas as well.

There are a few reasons why I think Illinois has a chance with this recruitment. One reason is the fact that the Illini have been recruiting the state of Texas well. Illini wide receivers coach Andrew Hayes-Stoker is a boss when it comes to recruiting the Lone Star State. If anyone can pull a talented pass catcher like Miller out of the state of Texas, it will be Coach Stoker.

Another reason I think Illinois has a chance here is the fact that there is a huge need for a big playmaker at wide receiver. Illinois doesn’t have a big target on the outside to help the quarterbacks. Miller would provide that help. He stands at 6-foot-4, so he would be a great red zone target as well.

Miller also seems to really like the Illini too. The Writing Illini had a chance to confirm that he will be visiting Champaign come April and that he believes it is an official visit. He also had a few words to say about the program when asked what he finds attractive about Illinois.

“Just talking to the coaches every day and building a bond with them is great,” said Miller, “They show a lot of love that most colleges don’t.”

I believe the Illini will keep showing that love. We need a big playmaker like Miller to help Isaiah Williams or whoever is behind center at the time. He would be a great addition to this team.
