Illinois football continued to rip through the state of Texas with scholarship offers on Monday.

Sawyer Goram-Welch announced on Twitter that he had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. Texas has produced some top talent for the Illini, and adding another player from this pipeline would be good for the program.

Goram-Welch is a 6-foot-4, 265-pound strong-side defensive end from Longview High School in Longview, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 992 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 52 strong-side defensive end in the nation. He is also the No. 144 player in the state of Texas as well.

The interest in Goram-Welch is strong right now. He has a few handfuls of scholarship offers and a lot of other programs interested in bringing him aboard. Besides for the Illini, some of the bigger programs who have offered him a scholarship include Texas Tech, SMU and Air Force. This could be a tough recruitment to crack for the Illini.

Moving forward, defensive end is actually a strong suit for the Illini. Owen Carney, Bobby Roundtree, Isaiah Gay and Ayo Shogbonyo are all juniors this season and will be seniors in 2020. They have depth behind them with Lere Oladipo, Jamal Woods, Julian Pearl and Ezekiel Holmes as well. Illinois also has Seth Coleman and Moses Okpala coming in from the class of 2019 too.

Defensive end is one area that is actually pretty deep for the Illinois football team. There isn’t an immediate need at the position, and that is a good thing for Goram-Welch. That gives him the opportunity to come into the program and redshirt year one. He then can learn the system and build up strength for the following seasons.

Goram-Welch is a solid top 1000 player for the class of 2020. He would help continue the great depth the Illini already have at defensive end. It is a great off by the Orange and Blue.
