The Illinois football team dipped into the class of 2020 with their next scholarship offer.

On Tuesday night, Von Hill announced on Twitter that he had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. The great thing about this offer is the fact it is to a big and talented pass catcher. Illinois is in need of more talent on the outside.

Hill is a 6-foot-2, 184-pound wide receiver from Pine Forest High School in Pensacola, Florida. He isn’t rated or ranked by 247Sports, yet, but does have some serious recruiting attention already coming his way.

While Illinois is early on Hill’s recruitment, they aren’t the first team to come in with an offer. A few other programs to take notice of Hill include Troy, Southern Mississippi and South Alabama. But, the one team that has offered him that impresses me the most is Oregon. They came in with an offer to Hill about a month ago.

I am glad Illinois is recognizing Hill’s abilities. This kid has some special talent that could really help this Orange and Blue offense reach new heights. I am a little surprised he isn’t ranked or rated by 247Sports yet, though.

The first thing that stands out to me about Hill’s game is the fact that he has some serious speed. He is more of a straight-line wide receiver who can take the top off a defense. Illinois has been missing that for a long time. I can’t remember the last time the Illini had a true deep threat with great speed.

Having such great speed is also probably why Oregon wants Hill too. Illinois’ offense is trying to be more like the Oregon offense, so they will be competing for the same talent.

Hopefully, the Illini can win out here. We could really use more depth at wide receiver, but we could also use someone who can tear apart a secondary. That is what I think Hill can do for the Orange and Blue.
