This weekend was big for the Illinois football team for multiple reasons.

One of the reasons this weekend was so big was that there were so many big-time recruits visiting the campus. Players like Denver Warren took in what the Illini had to offer. Josh Plohr was another big visitor for the Orange and Blue. The other reason this weekend was so big was that Plohr liked his visit enough to take to Twitter to announce he has committed to the University of Illinois.

Plohr is a 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive tackle from Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 2274 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 185 offensive tackle in the nation. He is also the No. 42 player in the state of Missouri as well.

This was an important commitment for the Illinois football team. We needed more offensive line depth on the team for the future. I think we will be okay this season. That will give Plohr time to, potentially, redshirt year one. But, in 2020 and beyond, Illinois is going to need some serious offensive line help.

Judging by his size, I assume Plohr might end up moving over to guard. There was even an article published by David Kvidahl of STL Today back on August 9, 2018, about how big programs are looking at Plohr more as a guard than a tackle.

I feel like Plohr is one of those players who has a ton of potential. The Illinois coaching staff has been good at identifying the players who have a lot of potential and then bringing them in and building them up into refined athletes. I think that is their mindset with Plohr.

Plohr seems to get the game pretty well. I think he would be fantastic at the guard role where he can pull block and get out in front of the running back. He is quick for his size, which is a great thing for an offensive lineman.

I like this addition by the Illinois football team. Plohr will, hopefully, redshirt year one. I can’t wait to see what this kid develops into, though. He could end up being an important piece on this team.
