The Illinois football team was busy on Tuesday trying to build their team for the future.

One of the bigger issues with the program right now is the wide receiver corps. We have some solid pass catchers, but I would like for there to be more depth. I think that is where Savion Williams would come into play.

Williams is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound wide receiver from Marshall High School in Marshall, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 926 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 154 wide receiver in the nation. He is also the No. 128 player in the state of Texas as well.

On Tuesday, Williams announced on Twitter that he had received an offer from the University of Illinois. He also tagged wide receivers coach Andrew Hayes-Stoker in the tweet as well. This makes sense considering he is the wide receivers coach, and he has been one of the main recruiters in the Lone Star State.

Illinois wasn’t the first team to offer Williams a scholarship, though. He now has, roughly, 14 offers and some of the bigger programs include the likes of Texas Tech, Indiana and TCU. But, Illinois does have a good track record in the state of Texas, so maybe they can get in this big-time recruitment.

The Illinois roster is kind of shallow right now when it comes to the wide receiver position. Both Justice Williams and Trenard Davis will be departing after this season. Ricky Smalling and Dominic Stampley will be seniors next season as well. There isn’t a whole lot of depth on the team right now. That means Williams can come in and see playing time immediately.

If Williams does pick the Illini, I see him being an impact player year one. Illinois will have plenty of snaps available, so this would be great recruiting chip. He could see early action for the Illini. Plus, he is a nice big target, which Illinois is severely lacking right now as well.

Hopefully, Illinois can get in on the Williams recruitment. This kid has great size and could be an asset to this program.
