Building the trenches is important, and the Illinois football team’s most recent offer will help that cause.

Kevin Tyler took to Twitter to announce that he received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. He is a player who could help this team on the offensive line. He is also a player from an area Illinois continues to do well in too.

Tyler is a 6-foot-5, 295-pound offensive tackle from Ritenour High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1,048 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 101 offensive tackle in the nation. He is also the No. 20 player in the state of Missouri as well.

The scholarship offers have already been coming in for Tyler. Illinois is now added to a list that contains at least seven other programs. Some of the more notable teams include Iowa State, Kansas State and Memphis.

Like previously mentioned the state of Missouri, particularly the St. Louis area, has been good to the Illinois football program. The Illini currently have Nick Walker on the roster who is from St. Louis and went to Miller Career Academy. We are also bringing aboard Isaiah Williams, Shammond Cooper and Moses Okpala who are all St. Louis products and top 600 recruits.

Beyond the solid recruiting base Illinois is building around the St. Louis area, they are also in need of more offensive line help. The offensive line heading into the 2019 season is pretty solid as far as starters are concerned. But, I am still nervous about depth.

The Illini will be losing Richie Petitbon after this season because he is a graduate transfer. Next season, Illinois will have five main offensive linemen who will all be senior as well. There isn’t a lot of depth on the second level, which makes me nervous. This is also why we need someone like Tyler to come aboard and play immediately.

Next. Illini trying to build depth with offer to Savion Williams. dark

Illinois has the ability to offer Tyler early playing time, great location and a team that is on the rise. Hopefully, we are able to land this kid for the future.
