Another day goes by and another Illinois football scholarship offer has been handed out in Texas.
Isaiah Essissima announced via Twitter on Monday that he has been offered a scholarship by the University of Illinois. Getting into the recruitment of another player from the state of Texas would be nice. The Illini coaching staff has done a great job recruiting the Lone Star State.
Essissima is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback from Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1355 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 133 cornerback in the nation. He is also the No. 180 player in the state of Texas as well.
There has been a solid amount of recruiting attention paid toward Essissima. Back in July of 2018, Essissima cut his list down to just six teams which included Boise State, Houston, Iowa State, Nebraska, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt. The recruiting process went on, and he decided he would commit to Houston on September 7, 2018.
Well, Houston went through a coaching change and on January 17, Essissima decided to open his recruitment back up. Since then, he has received a few more scholarship offers, one being from Illinois. My question is; can the Illini get in his recruitment?
It is going to be interesting to see if the Illini can make some waves with Essissima’s recruitment. He has a lot of recruiting attention and established relationships with many different coaches already. With signing day next week, it will be difficult for Illinois to snag this talented cornerback.
Illinois sure could use more depth on the outside, though. The starters will be fine for the Illini for the next few years, but the lack of depth is what scares me. Essissima would add depth to the Illinois roster. He would then get a chance to start during his final few years with the program.
I would love to see Essissima in the Orange and Blue. This kid has some talent and would provide depth to a depleted secondary. Keep an eye on this recruitment.
