4. Giorgi’s leadership is underrated

Some people are going to look at the stat sheet and wonder why Giorgi Bezhanishvili wasn’t very productive. He didn’t have a good day if you just look at the numbers.

Giorgi finished the Maryland game with six points, three assists and two rebounds. He fouled out of the game, shockingly, and was only 3-of-9 from the field. I could see people who didn’t watch the game thinking we need to upgrade at his position.

Well, I think you need to watch the game if you think that. Giorgi was a big part of this team against Maryland. He was effective in the paint against a much bigger frontcourt for the Terrapins. He used his athletic ability to move around the court to free up space for the driving guards as well. His ability to shoot and move helped this team tremendously.

One underrated thing that Giorgi brings to the table is his leadership. This kid is only a true freshman, but he is developing into a big-time leader on this team. His ability to see what is happening with a play and the communication he has with his teammates is incredible. This kid is like a middle linebacker in football. He has some great leadership qualities.

The stat sheet doesn’t show the entire story. Giorgi was a big part of this win on Saturday. I love his development, and I can’t wait to see him play for us for years to come.
