Despite some bad news about a few Illinois football players transferring, the team did receive a vote of confidence from a big-time target.

AJ Henning announced on Twitter that he has decided to cut down his list to just 10 programs. The teams he kept on his top list include Michigan, Notre Dame, Stanford, Ohio State, Purdue, LSU, Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan State and Illinois.

Henning is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound wide receiver from Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 51 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 8 wide receiver in the nation. He is also the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois as well.

247Sports currently has Henning as 83-percent to Notre Dame and 17-percent to Ohio State. There is a lot of time left in his recruitment, though. I wouldn’t count out the Illini either. Illinois was the first team to offer Henning a scholarship back on June 7, 2017. They were the first program to see what this kid had in him.

Illinois also has great location as well. It is a straight shot down I-57 to Champaign. This would be less than a two-hour drive for his family and friends to come see him play. This is a luxury not a lot of teams can provide for Henning.

The Illini have great things going on with the program as well. They have a new performance center opening up prior to the 2019 season. This center will help build players into NFL caliber talent. I also like what is going on with the football roster as well.

Henning would come into the Illinois program in 2020 and start immediately. He would have sophomore quarterback Isaiah Williams throwing him the ball as well. This combination has a chance to be really special for the Illini. Williams’ development this season could help bring in Henning next year.

There is a lot that Illinois brings to the table. This team is on the rise, and I hope Henning can see this. There are so many good things going on with the program. Adding a top-notch wide receiver would help put this team over the top.
