There are so many different recruits who could help the Illinois football team win some ball games in 2019.

One of the newer targets for the Illini is Sione Vaki. Vaki took to Twitter about a week ago to announce that he had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. He also had a talk with Lovie Smith as well, which is always a great way to start of a potential relationship.

Vaki is a 6-foot, 190-pound safety from Liberty High School in Brentwood, California. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 553 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 46 safety in the nation. He is also the No. 73 player in the state of California.

The recruitment of Vaki seems to be pretty quiet. According to 247Sports, Washington State, Utah, USC, Tennessee and Utah State are all the top suitors for Vaki’s commitment. The only official visit he has been on is to Utah State back on October 13. So, from the look of things, Illinois still has a chance to get in on this kid’s recruitment.

What this kid brings to the table as a playmaker is absolutely impressive. Vaki can do everything on the football field. Let me first start off with his toughness. This kid is tough as nails. I would want him to suit up for the Illini purely based on his grit and toughness. I also love his speed as well. He can stop and go on a dime and that is important as a safety. He will need to change directions at a moment’s notice. The hands of Vaki are underrated too. The ability for him to go up and catch the ball is special.

There are so many reasons I want Vaki on the Illini. He has the ability to do everything. I honestly think they could put him at safety and in the slot. He is just a great football player.

Do I think the Illini can get in on Vaki’s recruitment? Yes, but I don’t know about landing him. There are some good west coast teams after his services. But, I think they can get an official visit. This would be an impressive get for the Orange and Blue.
