The Illinois football team made a move Monday evening that would help build the class of 2019 into one of the best in the Big Ten.

Thomas Nance III took to Twitter to announce that he had received a scholarship offer from the University of Illinois. This is a great offer by the Illini, but he could be a tough get for the Orange and Blue.

Nance is a 6-foot-3, 240-pound athlete from Lake Region High School in Eagle Lake, Florida. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1,293 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 57 tight end in the nation. He is also the No. 177 player in the state of Florida as well.

The reason Nance is going to be a hard player to get is that he is already committed to a program. He committed to South Florida back on July 6, 2018. But, with the offer from the Illini, maybe they can flip him from that commitment.

247Sports lists Nance as a tight end at the college level. This kid played just about every position in high school, and I think tight end would be a solid option for him. He has good size at 6-foot-3, 240-pounds. The ability to catch the ball is there as well. I also like Nance’s speed that he shows for his size. That combination could be deadly at the next level.

Illinois is also in dire need of a tight end in 2019 as well. They lost their great sophomore tight end, Louis Dorsey, to transfer a few games into the 2018 campaign. Griffin Moore is coming in from the class of 2019, so he should be an option next year. But, I would like more depth and competition at the position. Bringing in Nance would help with both of those areas.

Nance would give Illinois another option at tight end. He would have plenty of opportunities to see playing time and potentially start year one. Hopefully, the Illini can flip this talented athlete.
