5. Bayron Matos – No. 142

Illinois can’t forget about the big men for the class of 2020. While this is a guard-heavy class, I think getting someone like Bayron Matos would be good for the program.

Matos is a 6-foot-8, 240-pound center from Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 142 player in the class of 2020. His ranking didn’t move in the updated top 150.

Illinois was one of the biggest programs to offer Matos early on in his recruitment. I think Florida was the only big-time DI program to come in with an offer before the Illini. Illinois ended up offering him a scholarship on July 21.

Since that offer, Illinois has been in contact with Matos. They are actually down to see him on Wednesday, September 19. This is a big visit for the Illini. The program could always use more big man depth moving forward.

I am not sure where Matos will end up when his recruitment is finished. He has some big-time programs after him like Florida, Mississippi State and Dayton. He will be difficult to snag, but I think the Illini can do it. The visit they are on right now shows how much they want this big man.
