Some surprising news hit the wire this weekend for the Illinois basketball team.

Former Illini target Terrence Shannon decided to reopen his recruitment after committing DePaul on August 12. This is a big reopening considering Shannon is a 6-foot-6, 185-pound small forward from Lincoln Park High School in Chicago, Illinois. He is also rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 90 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 22 small forward in the nation.

Shannon’s recruitment has been interesting, to say the least. He has been on two official visits, June 20 to Florida State and August 7 to DePaul. After his visit to DePaul, he cut his list down to just four teams and included Maryland, DePaul, Florida State and Illinois. Just two days after he cut his list down, Shannon picked the Blue Demons.

This decision did come as a surprise. Not for whom he picked so much as when he picked them. He made his decision so soon after he visited DePaul and cut his list. But, now Shannon has a chance to step back and reevaluate his recruiting situation.

Illinois seemed to have been in the running for Shannon when he cut his list down to four teams. I could make an argument they were the No. 2 team when he picked DePaul. So, his de-commitment gives new hope to some Illini fans.

Kedric Prince of Rivals released some information on Sunday night as well. He tweeted out a few quotes from Shannon. In the tweet, Shannon says he felt he rushed his decision and that his recruitment is wide open again. He also mentioned that Illinois assistant coach Chin Coleman has already contacted him.

Illinois isn’t done with Shannon. They want this kid because he would help the program get to a level they haven’t been in a long time. I believe the Illini are likely back in the running for Shannon. Hopefully, they can get him down for an official visit and land this talented forward.
