Jashua Allen

There are many recruits still left to make a commitment for 2019. But, one of the junior college prospects that could make a difference for the Illini is Jashua Allen.

Allen is a 6-foot-2, 225-pound inside linebacker from Tigard High School in Portland, Oregon. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 6 junior college player in the class of 2019 and the No. 2 inside linebacker in the nation. He currently attends Arizona Western College.

Back on July 14, Allen cut his list down to just five teams. He included Utah, Colorado, Iowa State, Washington State and Illinois on this list. These are all pretty good teams who could use a player like Allen for the future.

There has only been one official visit taken by Allen and that was to Colorado on June 8. The fact he didn’t commit then or hasn’t set up any other official visits yet says to me that he isn’t going to pick the Buffalos. I actually believe Illinois has a really good chance here as well.

Hardy Nickerson is a great coach who had an amazing NFL career at linebacker. He is also a great recruiter for the west coast as well. He has his roots there and can pull in talented players from this area. He is one of the reasons why I think Allen could be coming to Champaign.

I also think Allen could but suiting up for the Orange and Blue because there is plenty of immediate playing time to go around. Del’Shawn Phillips is gone after the 2018 campaign and Illinois will need someone to step in right away. This would be perfect for Allen. I think Illinois likely has a leg up on most of the teams on this list.
