The Illinois basketball team needs to build a great class of 2019 to continue their recruiting momentum from the previous group of players who are entering the program this season.

There have been many recruits come and go in the class of 2019 already. So many targets have said no to the Orange and Blue, though. The top target that just went off the board as I typed this was Kahlil Whitney. He had cut his list down to four teams a few days ago but decided to end his recruitment on Wednesday and is now committed to Kentucky.

Whitney to Kentucky isn’t a surprise but it is sad if you are an Illini fan. But, there are still quite a few recruits who are left on the board right now. Illinois has a foot in the door with most of these recruits. They each could help this program build into a national contender once again.

There are currently six recruits who either have the Illini on their top list or they have strong interest in coming to Champaign but haven’t cut their list down just yet. These players are big for the program and some of them should commit to Illinois.

Here are the top six Illini targets for the class of 2019.
