There are many options for the Illinois basketball team come 2020.

Players like Adam Miller, Moses Moody and Jaemyn Brakefield have dominated the headlines when it comes to possible recruits the Illini can land. But, one player who Illinois fans should continue to keep an eye on is Nimari Burnett.

Burnett is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound shooting guard from Prolific Prep High School in Napa, California. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 48 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 13 shooting guard in the nation.

Over the past few years, Burnett’s name has come up and I have been keeping an eye on his recruitment for a while. In a recent interview with Prep Circuit, Burnett talked about his recruitment. He said Ohio State, Gonzaga and Stanford have been the most active in the last month or so. He also said he wanted to visit Indiana, Gonzaga and Illinois after July as well.

This is great news for the Illini. Getting a talented guard like Burnett would be big for the program. He also has ties to the area as well. If you all don’t remember, Burnett is from Chicago. He played for head coach Nick Irvin at Morgan Park before transferring out to California in the summer of last year.

The connection to the area is most likely a huge factor in Illinois potentially getting a visit from Burnett. They will also need some serious guard help, as of right now, for 2020. Burnett could be that guy because he is so talented in many different areas.

Burnett suited up for Team WhyNot of the Nike EYBL AAU league this past summer. He helped the team get to the Peach Jam by averaging 14.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He then elevated those numbers to 14.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game during the Peach Jam.

There is no question that Burnett is one of the best to come out of the class of 2020. Getting a visit from him would be a step in the right direction. Winning on the court this season is a must if we want to get these talented recruits in the future. I think there is a legit shot at eventually landing Burnett.
