The Illinois basketball team tapped into the Texas market on Wednesday night.

Brad Underwood and the Illini coaching staff extended a scholarship offer to Donovan Williams. He is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound shooting guard from Fort Bend Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 95 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 13 shooting guard in the nation.

This was a good offer from the Illini considering this young talented guard doesn’t have a ton of recruiting attention right now. While Illinois was a little late to offer Williams, I think they may have time to get in on his recruitment. 247Sports has SMU at 100-percent to land him and Texas is a warm as well.

There is a lot to like about Williams’ game. This kid can stretch the floor with his ability to drive the paint as well as hit a jumper from anywhere. He has great range with his shot and has a confidence that seems to be unmatched. I also like his length. He seems to have a nice wingspan that will help him on defense as well.

Williams has also played well for his AAU team this summer. Houston Hoops of the EYBL went 12-4 on the season, and Williams averaged 8.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in the 16 games he played in this year. His team also made it to the Peach Jam as well. They are 1-0 so far with two games on Thursday and two games on Friday.

Next: Illini need to land 2 of the 5 recruits on this list

I hope Illinois can get in on Williams’ recruitment. This kid has a nice game and would help the Illini program win in the future. He can score the ball at a high clip and his length will give opponents nightmares. And to bring it all home, he is a winner too. This would be a big pickup for the Orange and Blue.
