The Illinois football team is still building their class of 2019 into one of the best in the Big Ten. To accomplish this goal, they need to start getting more players like Fabian McCray. He would be a big get for this program.

McCray is a 6-foot-1, 177-pound wide receiver from Phillips Academy in Chicago, Illinois. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 943 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 112 wide receiver in the nation.

At one time it felt like Illinois was a lock to land McCray. He seemed to have warmed up to Illinois a lot and that was going to be his final destination. But, teams continued to offer him scholarships and this brought a little more anxiety to the Illini fan base.

Just about a week ago, McCray cut his list to just four programs. He included Minnesota, Iowa State, West Virginia and Illinois on this list. All three of the teams Illinois is going up against worry me. Minnesota and Iowa State have both stolen a decent amount of players from the state of Illinois over the past few years. West Virginia just joined McCray’s recruitment at the beginning of June and is already in his top four. That can’t be good.

If Illinois can pull in McCray, it would help the program tremendously. He would see a lot of snaps year one as a freshman. He is a talented player who the Illini need.
