PISCATAWAY, NJ – FEBRUARY 25: Trent Frazier /

No. 1 Guard

Starter: Trent Frazier

The starter at the No. 1 guard position is going to be Trent Frazier this upcoming season. Barring a transfer, he should be the main ball handler for the Illini. I am excited to see what Frazier can do on the basketball court this season.

Frazier finished last season averaging 26.3 minutes per game and in that time, he averaged 12.5 points, 3.1 assists, 1.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. His rise from a player who many people weren’t talking about to someone who is a legit Big Ten Player of the Year contender during his sophomore season is something to marvel at. This kid is going to be special for the program this season.

Backup: Andres Feliz

Illinois had Te’Jon Lucas transfer out of the program after last season. He is now with Milwaukee, but the Illini did a great job securing a replacement who is just as good or potentially even better than what Lucas was for the program.

Feliz was ranked as one of the best junior college players in the country. He averaged 20 points, 6.1 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game his final season with Northwest Florida State. I know those numbers won’t transfer, but I think the Illini can get good production out of him. I am extremely excited to see what he can bring to the team.
