The Illinois basketball team made a move on the class of 2020 on Sunday afternoon.

Zeb Jackson was the most recent scholarship offer from the Illini. He is a 6-foot-2, 160-pound point guard from Maumee High School in Maumee, Ohio. He isn’t rated or ranked in the class of 2020 yet because 247Sports hasn’t come out with their complete list, but Jackson is looking to be at least a borderline top 100 player.

Illinois is now added to a solid list of scholarship offers for Jackson. In addition to the Illini, Jackson also has teams like Ohio State, Cincinnati, Dayton and Providence also pursuing this young point guard. This list will surely continue to grow as time goes on as well.

Jackson brings a great skillset to the game at the high school level. This kid has everything I want in a guard on the Illini. He has the ability to be aggressive in the paint and around the perimeter. Jackson also has the ability to distribute as well as shoot. He is the complete package, and I am shocked he isn’t ranked yet. The player he reminds me of is Trent Frazier. They both have a similar skillset.

Illinois is going to need more guard help in 2020 as well. By then, I expect Ayo Dosunmu to have moved on to the NBA. He mentioned in his commitment speech that he will be at Illinois one or two seasons and then he will go to the league. I also expect Frazier to have moved on as well. He had a great freshman campaign and will continue to grow each season. I highly doubt he is still in Champaign when 2020 rolls around.

With that being said, I am glad Illinois is getting in on Jackson’s recruitment right now. It is still extremely early, and they can say they were one of the first few to offer him a scholarship. They can’t put all their eggs in one basket when it comes to recruiting. This offer was a good one by the Illini.
