The Illinois football team dipped into the south with a scholarship offer to a big-time defensive end.

Logan Cash was the recipient of this scholarship offer from the Illini. He is a 6-foot-3.5, 252-pound strong-side defensive end from Winder-Barrow High School in Winder, Georgia. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 592 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 38 strong-side defensive end in the nation.

Illinois is by no means the first or the last scholarship offer for Cash. He already has roughly 34 offers on the table right now and the most recent impressive offers have come from Clemson, Miami (FL) and Virginia Tech. It will be extremely difficult to pry him from SEC and ACC country.

Cash is a very impressive player on the football field. He brings a skill set that is going to translate to the next level, and that is exciting. He has the speed of a linebacker and the strength of a defensive end. He gets off the ball nicely and can finesse offensive linemen or just blow right through them. There is a lot to like about his potential.

The player Cash reminds me of right now is JJ Watt. I know they aren’t the same player physically yet, but both have the ability to bull rush or finesse their way through the offensive line. They both also have great speed as well.

Illinois doesn’t have depth at a lot of positions, but at defensive end, they are doing a great job of getting talented players. Most of the defensive ends on the roster right now will be juniors if Cash decides to come to Champaign. I wasn’t blown away by the production last season from this position, but there were a few defensive ends like Isaiah Gay and Bobby Roundtree who really started to develop.

I think Cash could come in and see snaps from day one. This kid has potential to do some great things on the football field. Hopefully, the Illini can get into his recruitment and maybe at least make a top 5 or top 10 list.
