The Illinois football team went after one of the best players in the class of 2020 on Tuesday night.

Justin Flowe received a scholarship offer from the Illini. He is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound outside linebacker from Upland High School in Upland, California. He is rated as a five-star recruit who is the No. 4 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 2 outside linebacker in the nation. The fact Illinois offered this kid is exciting, but my expectations are realistic about the potential of landing him.

Obviously, Flowe has scholarship offers from just about every program in the country. 247Sports has his total at 34 right now but my guess is that number is probably more. You name the school and they are in the lottery for this kid. 247Sports has USC leading for his commitment with teams like Alabama, Florida, Ohio State and Oklahoma lurking right behind.

I mean, what is there not to like about Flowe on the football field? This kid has everything wrapped into one amazingly talented linebacker. And, he only just finished up his sophomore year in high school. The kid looks like a senior in college right now.

Everything stands out about Flowe. His speed is insane for his age. He can get to the ball carrier or quarterback before the offensive player has any idea what is going on. He can chase down wide receivers and running backs as well.

Flowe has the ability to drop back in coverage. His vision for the field is incredible and this leads to turnovers. He can tackle with the best of the best as well. His ability to just lay into offensive players is extremely fun to watch.

Illinois would obviously start Flowe day one. The Illini can offer a head coach in Lovie Smith who coached Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher for most of his career in the NFL. They have five-time Pro Bowl and two-time All-Pro linebacker Hardy Nickerson as the defensive coordinator. Illinois has the tools for Flowe to become the best NFL player that he can be.

But, it would probably be a miracle to land Flowe. With all of the big-time programs that are after him, he will probably go to a tradition power. It is always fun to dream, though.
