Illinois Basketball: 2020 PG DJ Steward plans on visiting Illini
One area the new Illinois basketball coaching staff has nailed is at the point guard position.
The No. 1 for the Illini has been amazing. But, they will need to start replacing some of the talent when they either depart for the NBA or graduate from the program. That is why getting someone like DJ Steward would be big for the Illini.
Steward is a 6-foot-1, 150-pound point guard from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 40 player in the class of 2020 and the No. 8 point guard in the nation.
Illinois has emerged as a team Steward is keeping an eye on. According to Jake Weingarten of Stock Risers, Steward says he is for sure going to take a trip to Champaign this summer. This is great news if you are an Illinois basketball fan. I know the class of 2018 needs to be buttoned up still and the class of 2019 has some big players that need to be secured, but it is never too early to think about the class of 2020.
Weingarten also mentions Steward wants to visit Florida, Georgia Tech and Marquette as well. Both Florida and Georgia Tech have offered Steward, and I would imagine Marquette’s offer will come in soon.
Illinois is going to need some point guard help when 2020 rolls around. Trent Frazier would be a senior if he is around all four years. As of right now, it seems like Frazier could be going early to the NBA. Ayo Dosunmu would be a junior, but I have my doubts he lasts that long at Illinois. He will likely be gone after a year or two in Champaign.

That means Illinois is going to need a lot of point guard help. There would be minutes and starting jobs available, and Steward would likely get the nod if he came to Illinois. This would be a great get for the Illini and, hopefully, his visit goes well this summer.
