Illinois Basketball: Ranking the last 10 Illini recruiting classes
2. Class of 2018
The current Illinois class of 2018 has something special going on right now. None of them have played a single second with the Illini, so this ranking could change down the road. But, I would put them at No. 2 right now.
The leader of this class is Ayo Dosunmu. He is a five-star recruit who is the No. 27 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 3 combo-guard in the nation. This was a huge commitment for the Illini. Dosunmu is coming in as the highest rated recruit on this list and that is why the class of 2018 is ranked so high.
Tevian Jones is the second-best player in this class. He is a four-star recruit who is ranked as the No. 110 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 26 small forward in the nation. The pickup of Jones was impressive as well. This kid is from California and had a bunch of west coast teams after him. He will be an impact player day one.
The next player to check in from this class is Alan Griffin. He is a three-star recruit who is the No. 173 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 41 shooting guard in the nation. Don’t underestimate this kid. He is a sensational shooter and arguably the best recruit coming out of the state of New York.
Illinois also has Andres Feliz coming in as well. He is the No. 12 junior college transfer and the No. 2 point guard. Getting Feliz is going to be huge in replacing Te’Jon Lucas.
I also like the additions of Samba Kane and Giorgi Bezhanishvili as well. These two big men are both three-star recruits and will help in the paint tremendously. I think they should both see minutes year one.
Illinois doesn’t have great depth in the class of 2018, but they do have some solid talent. Dosunmu anchors this class and being the top recruit in the last 10 years, he automatically elevates it to the No. 2 spot for the Illini.
