3. Fabian McCray

Depth at wide receiver is extremely important. Illinois doesn’t have a ton of depth right now but they do have some solid pass catchers who will be great eventually. They need to continue to build up this position, though. That is why Fabian McCray would be so important.

McCray is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver from Phillips Academy in Chicago, Illinois. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is ranked as the No. 806 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 12 player in the state of Illinois.

Illinois has made McCray a serious priority since they offered him a scholarship back on January 17, 2018. He has since visited the program once, but he has also received a lot of offers since then as well. Teams are recognizing how talented of a pass catcher this kid really is.

The recruitment of McCray seems like it is coming down to a few teams, though. He told the Writing Illini back on March 30 that Iowa State, Kentucky and Illinois are three teams that have been in contact with him the most. He likes the people and coaches at Iowa State. He likes the idea of playing in the SEC at Kentucky and how hard they have been recruiting him. And he likes the coaches, players and how comfortable he feels at Illinois.

Current Illinois players and commits have been recruiting McCray to come to Champaign as well. Ricky Smalling has been the most active and Marquez Beason continues to be in contact with him as well. These two should help in the recruitment of this talented wide receiver.

Illinois needs more pass catchers, and I really like what McCray brings to the table. Secure him and the Illini quarterbacks will have a heyday on Saturdays.
