1. Marquez Beason #55

It has been extremely impressive what Lovie Smith has done in the state of Texas leading up to the class of 2019. But, the home run he hit with No. 1 on this list – Marquez Beason – has people talking about the Illini as a team on the rise.

Beason is a 5-foot-11, 173-pound athlete from Bishop Dunne High School in Dallas, Texas. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 55 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 6 athlete in the nation. The reason he is an athlete is that he can play both wide receiver and cornerback. He isn’t just limited to one position.

Illinois did an amazing job recruiting Beason to come to Champaign. They have built a great rapport in the state of Texas. The Illini had to beat out teams like LSU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M for Beason’s commitment.

When Beason comes into the program, he will start immediately. I don’t care what position he plays. He is a playmaker and playmakers make plays. He is the highest rated recruit the Illini have snagged in the last decade, and I think he will take this team from solid to top tier in the Big Ten.
