The Illinois football team has the most recruiting momentum I have seen in a very long time.

This recruiting momentum is not just about one player or one recruiting class, though. This momentum really started with the Lovie Smith hiring a little over two years ago. He came into this Illinois program and while the wins aren’t there yet, he has people talking and players committing.

Illinois has snagged talented recruits from all over the country. The Ron Zook era focused on some in-state kids and really hit the state of Florida hard. They had some of the best recruiting classes I have seen come through Champaign in a long time.

The following two eras after Zook weren’t nearly as good. They were a little embarrassing quite frankly, but they did have some talented players in those classes. The current era we are in now – the Lovie Smith era – has been extremely impressive on the recruiting trail. He has built these great recruiting classes from the ground up and they have started in Texas.

Illinois is getting better as a team and the talent is improving. It is only a matter of time before the wins start flowing in because of all the hard work that is taking place off the field. The state of Texas has really helped in the talent improvement department. There have been some special players sign up from the Lone Star State.

Here are the five biggest Illini commits from the state of Texas.
