A 2019 target for the Illinois football team has adjusted his recruiting schedule slightly on Thursday morning

Marcus Washington announced on Twitter that his original commitment date of August 7 cannot happen due to NCAA rules, so he won’t be committing on that day. He didn’t announce what day he will make his decision but he did detail some more facts about his recruitment.

Washington continued on in the tweet by saying, he will be releasing his top six on May 13 and then will take his official visits during the upcoming season. This top six could be derived from his original top 10 which included Alabama, Florida State, Missouri, Iowa State, Texas, USC, Penn State, Oklahoma, Oregon and Ohio State. But, Illinois had made up some ground as of late.

This top 10 was released on March 7 but a few weeks later, he mentioned to Doug Bucshon of Rivals that Illinois was back in the mix. So, the top six he is going to release here in about a month could have the Illini in the mix right with some of the top programs in the nation.

Washington would be a big-time get for the Illini. He is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound wide receiver from Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 62 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 11 wide receiver in the nation.

Illinois has some things going for them in the recruitment of Washington. The coaching staff is comprised of some talented football minds with NFL experience. His high school head coach – Cory Patterson – is now the tight ends coach for the Illini. The location is a great thing. Champaign is only a hop, skip and jump away from St. Louis.

In addition to those great pitches, Illinois also needs wide receivers. Washington would likely start day one for the Illini. There isn’t a lot of depth at that position and he would fit perfectly in the program. He would also be catching passes from his high school quarterback – Isaiah Williams – as well. Williams is one of the top quarterbacks in the nation and is committed to Illinois for 2019 already.

I think Illinois has positioned themselves nicely in the race for Washington. Will they ultimately win out? Maybe not, but I think they will be in his top six in about a month. I think they will also get an official visit as well. There are some special things happening in LittyvILLe.
