PISCATAWAY, NJ – FEBRUARY 25: Trent Frazier
PISCATAWAY, NJ – FEBRUARY 25: Trent Frazier /

No. 2 Guard

Starter: Trent Frazier

Illinois had one of the best freshmen in the Big Ten last season. The standout freshman for the Illini was Trent Frazier. He was sensational for the program. He averaged 12.5 points, 3.1 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game last year.

I want to see Frazier build on his point production. This kid can score and at a high clip. He is the most electric player on the team and with Dosunmu coming in, there should be less pressure on Frazier to perform. I think he should move over to the No. 2 spot for the Illini, so he can focus on scoring.

Backup: Da’Monte Williams

Da’Monte Williams eased into playing time last season because he was coming off an ACL tear the year before. Throughout the season, there were times you could see Williams getting healthier. I could see him taking a step forward this year as well.

Williams should build on his 3.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game from last season. He will be a primary backup to Frazier at the No. 2 guard spot.

Backup: Allan Griffin

Illinois is also bringing in talented guard Alan Griffin. He is an underrated three-star recruit from New York. I expect Griffin to come in and play a decent number of minutes immediately. He will be a sneaky depth piece for the Illini.
