The Illinois football team’s chances of landing another solid recruit just got a little better on Wednesday.

Bryce Childress announced on Twitter that he cut his choices down to just seven teams. He included Nebraska, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Toledo, Western Michigan and Illinois. These seven teams will be vying for a talented pass catcher.

Childress is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound wide receiver from Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1152 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 23 player in the state of Missouri.

Illinois has been on Childress for quite some time. They originally offered him a scholarship back in May 2017. He then took an unofficial visit to Champaign in October 2017 and was at the Illini junior day last month. The recruitment of Childress has been strong for a while and only continues to get stronger.

Childress’ former head coach at Trinity Catholic, Cory Patterson, was hired as the Illinois tight ends coach. He also has teammates looking at the Illini program as well. Quarterback Isaiah Williams is one of Illinois’ top targets right now and that is who throws the ball to Childress in high school.

In an interview about a week ago, Childress told the Writing Illini that Illinois was going to be one of the schools in his top list. He wanted them in there and is looking to take an official visit to Champaign. He felt the love of the coaches and the fact his former head coach is there right now.

Childress also mentioned Marquez Beason has been one of the players recruiting him for 2019. Beason is a top 60 recruit who is already committed to play for Lovie Smith and the Illini.

Next: This Friday could be program changing for Illini

It is exciting that Illinois made Childress’ top seven list. He is a good player who could really help this team in 2019 and into the future. Illinois is going to need some serious wide receiver help in a few years, and getting a player like Childress should solve that issue.
