4. Bryce Childress

Illinois is thin at the wide receiver position right now and will get thinner entering 2019. That is why they need to stockpile solid pass catchers. One player on the radar from Trinity Catholic is Bryce Childress.

Childress is a 5-foot-9, 155-pound wide receiver. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1142 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 23 player in the state of Missouri. The recruiting attention for Childress has really heated up over the last five or six months. He has received offers from teams like Louisville and Nebraska.

Illinois is on the radar for Childress. He likes the program because of the coaching staff and having his former head coach, Cory Patterson, as the tight ends coach for the Illini. He also likes the love he feels when he goes up to Champaign.

Childress told the Writing Illini that he wants to take one of his official visits to Illinois. When he does cut his list, he will include the Illini along with teams like Nebraska, Kansas, Toledo and Kentucky. He also wants Oregon State and Memphis to be in there too if they offer him.

Illinois could use a solid slot receiver, and I think that is what Childress’ role would be. Mike Dudek is departing after 2018 and they need someone to fill in for him. I think Childress would be perfect in this Illini offense.
