On Friday, the Illinois football team added another member to the class of 2019.

Griffin Moore took to Twitter to announce has committed to play football for Lovie Smith and the Illini. He now makes the second commitment in the last few weeks. The other recruit who committed was four-star Marquez Beason.

This is probably an under-the-radar pickup for the Illini. If Illinois has offered him, that means they see something in him that would improve the team in the future. Moore is a 6-foot-4, 225-pound tight end from Bloomington High School in Bloomington, Illinois. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 1469 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 65 tight end in the nation.

It looks like Moore had one other scholarship offer other than the Illini and that was Illinois State. But, teams like Iowa were sniffing around and potentially were about to pull the trigger on an offer.

I love the size Moore brings to the table. He is built like a linebacker and that is great to have at the tight end spot. Teams will fear tackling him because he will just run them over. The fact Moore played multiple positions in high school in exciting too. He had time at tight end, quarterback and what looked like defensive back. This kid is versatile and that means he is a great athlete and can learn quickly.

Illinois also needs more help at the tight end role. Moore can come in and compete right away if he is good enough. Behind Louis Dorsey, there is plenty of room on the depth chart. No one on the roster has proved themselves at tight end other than Dorsey.

I see Moore being like a Michael “Uh-oh” Hoomanawanui for this Illinois football team. Uh-oh was used on special teams, as a blocking tight end and as a receiving tight end. He was a talented player who helped the Illini win some games.

I like the addition of Moore to the Illini. He isn’t ranked the highest, but I think he will make a solid impact on this team. The class of 2019 count is up to two now.
