Illinois Football: Top 5 recruiting targets left for Illini in 2019
2. Jason Bargy
The state of Illinois is producing some of the most talented players that I have seen in a long time. There is so much depth in the class of 2019 and the Illini need to scoop some of these players up. Jason Bargy would be a nice start.
Bargy is a 6-foot-4, 225-pound weak-side defensive end from Momence High School in Momence, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 149 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 2 player in the state of Illinois. I really think landing a player like Bargy is a possibility for the Illini.
Most of the scholarship offers for Bargy are from the Big Ten. He also has a few from Notre Dame and Iowa State as well. This kid is super talented and will probably end up in the Big Ten, and that is why Illinois needs to be the team he chooses. I don’t want to be seeing him every Saturday chasing down our quarterback.
Illinois has been hot on the trail of Bargy for a while. Lovie Smith took a couple visits to see Bargy last year and two coaches have been to visit him in January of this year. He also took an unofficial visit to Champaign back in January as well. If the Illini can’t land Bargy, it isn’t for a lack of effort.
Lovie has done great work outside the state of Illinois. I would like to see him secure some in-state players, though. There is a lot of talent in the state of Illinois for 2019 and Illinois has a chance to show these players staying home is okay. Bargy would be a big first step.
