There is a contingency of Illinois football fans who don’t believe in what is going on with the program.

That is fine but I am a firm believer in what I am seeing with recruiting right now. This momentum in the recruiting field will turn into players committing and the team winning more games. Lovie Smith has made some big moves as far as recruiting goes as well.

Bringing Rod Smith aboard to coach the offense was important. Not only is he a good coach but he also has ties to the west coast, and there is a possibility of a graduate transfer coming in next season because he is on the staff. Having Cory Patterson coach the tight ends is big as well. He was the head coach of Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis. This program is a hotbed for high school talent and, hopefully, the addition of Patterson will bring more of those top kids to Champaign. That high school program was also really successful under Patterson as well.

Those two coaching additions this offseason will prove to be huge. The mix of hiring those coaches, having a staff full of NFL experience and recruiting the state of Texas hard has the Illini in a great position to land some extremely talented players who would change the program as we know it.

Two of the main targets for the class of 2019 are Marquez Beason and Isaiah Williams. Beason is a four-star wide receiver and cornerback from Bishop Dunne High School in Dallas, Texas. He is the No. 54 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 9 player in the state of Texas. Williams is a five-star athlete from Trinity Catholic High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the No. 28 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 1 player in the state of Missouri.

Beason and Williams are the top two targets for the Illini right now. Williams has his former head coach on the Illinois staff, and Beason has two of his former teammates – Kievan Myers and Calvin Avery – on the roster. Those are additional reasons why Champaign is an attractive destination as well. It also looks like the two have been talking about the possibilities of teaming up with Illinois.

Jeremy Werner of 247Sports quoted Beason saying he has been in contact with Williams and, “if we go together, it would change the whole program.”

This quote is amazing for Illinois football fans. I really think Beason loves the Illini program and wants to be there. He is visiting this weekend for an unofficial visit and, I assume, will take an official visit there as well. Illinois is one of his top four programs he released a few weeks ago.

Getting both Beason and Williams to Champaign would be incredible. If you didn’t believe in what is going on with the program before, surely this would get you to come aboard. The movement is real, folks, you better start taking notice.
