While some fans feel uneasy about the Illinois basketball program, the coaching staff is doing some work on the recruiting trail.

Brad Underwood and the Illini coaches landed five-star guard Ayo Dosunmu last year and just a few days ago received a commitment from underrated guard Alan Griffin. These two will do wonders for this basketball team. But, the coaching staff is by no means finished with the class of 2018.

Kedric Prince of Rivals tweeted out that Tevian Jones has plans to take all five official visits but could end up taking less. He also mentioned that Jones will take one of those visits this weekend to Champaign.

Jones is a big recruit for the Illini. He is 6-foot-6, 185-pound wing player from Culver City High School in Culver City, California. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 85 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 20 small forward in the nation. He would make for the second top 100 player the Illini would snag from this class.

Illinois has really put a lot of recruiting pressure on Jones over the last few months. They have offered him a scholarship and then visited him as well. They aren’t the only ones checking out Jones, though. He currently has 11 scholarship offers and they are all pretty big programs. Arizona is one of the most recent to extend an offer, but the likes of USC, UNLV and California are all up there too.

It seems that Jones has some good words about the Illini as well. In Prince’s tweets, Jones says he likes the Illinois playing style and what they have to offer. He thinks he can get a lot better with the Illini as well. The more good words the better. I love that this kid likes what he sees with Illinois.

There has been worry about what is going to happen as far as transfers go with the Illinois basketball program lately. Don’t worry Illini fans; it is next man up with this team. The coaching staff has a nice class coming in and they aren’t finished. Jones would be a great piece to add for the future.
