The Illinois basketball team continued their winning ways on Tuesday night as they took down the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Illinois was coming off a big win against rival Indiana, so I could see this game against Rutgers as being a letdown. But, that was far from the case. The Illini came out of the gates strong and finished even stronger. They dominated the entire contest against the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers kept the score close through the first 10 minutes of the game. But, that is when the Illini took over. Trent Frazier hit some big shots from the outside, and then just like that Illinois had an 18-point lead.

The Illini kept hitting shots in the first half and Rutgers couldn’t handle the defensive pressure. Every time the Scarlet Knights would hit a shot, Illinois would come back down and nail one as well. This wasn’t a fair fight. The halftime score was 41-22 in favor of the Illini.

The second half was much of the same. Illinois ended up extending the lead to 30 points by the 15:58 mark. That lead continued to grow and even reach as much as 41 points at one time.

Illinois was the better team and stepped on Rutgers’ throat. They didn’t let up the entire game either. Here are five takeaways from the Illini win over Rutgers.
