The Illinois basketball team continued on the recruiting trail yesterday with a scholarship offer to Cam’Ron Fletcher.

247Sports doesn’t have their full recruiting rankings out just yet. Fletcher isn’t rated and he isn’t ranked among his position. But, he is a 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard from Vashon High School in Saint Louis, Missouri. I see on some sites where Fletcher is already 6-foot-6. Since he is only a sophomore in high school right now, I assume he will grow a few more inches before he is done. That would transform him from a wing player to a potential wing-forward combo.

Right now, Fletcher has three scholarship offers. Illinois was the most recent, and Saint Louis and Kansas State came in with offers back in September. When I watch what this kid can do, I see his recruitment blowing up in the next year or year and a half.

Fletcher is going to get bigger. I believe he will end up around the height of Leron Black. This will make him a dangerous player considering he can shoot from the outside, but his specialty is driving the ball and getting to the hoop.

I like the way Fletcher moves. He glides around the court and this makes it hard for defenders to guard him. His wingspan seems like it is much larger than 6-foot-6 as well. I would say it is probably around 6-foot-9 or greater right now. This will also help him as he grows. More schools will look for a long wingspan especially with how tall he will end up being.

The comp I see when I watcher Fletcher is Kevin Durant. Now, calm down, I know Durant is almost 7-foot tall. Fletcher won’t have that height but he has a similar game. Durant is a great three-point shooter but can get the rim. He is hard to stop with his length and that is one of Fletcher’s great traits. He also glides around the floor like Durant as well.

It is good Illinois is getting in early on Fletcher. His recruitment will blow up but, hopefully, Illinois makes a big enough presence where no other school will matter.
