Illinois Basketball: 5 takeaways from the Illini loss to Nebraska
3. Trent Frazier on pace to crack record book
Illinois had another brutal loss on Monday night. But, there is always a silver lining to everything and the fact that Trent Frazier is having a remarkable season is one of those silver linings.
Frazier finished the Nebraska game with 19 points, five assists and four rebounds. He was also 7-of-14 on the night from the field. I thought this was arguably his best game as a member of the Illinois basketball team.
Over the last 11 games, Frazier has scored double-digit points in nine of those contests. He has become the leader of this Illinois team and someone the players look to get the ball to in crunch-time situations.
The great scoring production by Frazier has boosted his averages up to 11 points, 2.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. These aren’t bad numbers by any means. In fact, Frazier is looking to break into the record books.
No. 7 on the Illinois freshman scoring average list is Frank Williams who averaged 11.4 PPG. With Frazier putting up the numbers he is right now, there is no doubt he will surpass this mark. I think he could get up to No. 4 on the list which means he would pass Efrem Winters who averaged 12.4 PPG.
Frazier is also on pace to make 43 three-pointers this season as well, which would put him No. 8 all-time on the freshman three-point field goals list. He continues to impress on the court, and I can’t wait to see him crack the record books.
