The Illinois football team continues to recruit better players each year under Lovie Smith.

I was happy with how well the class of 2017 turned out. Illinois brought in talented players who will help build the foundation for future success of the program. They actually brought in nine total top 1000 players and that is a positive sign for the program.

The class of 2018 is turning out be another good one as well. The Illini are currently ranked as the No. 49 class in the nation and they have some great players coming into the program. They have seven players in the top 1000 and there should be a few more coming in the regular signing day period on February 7.

It is not too early to think about the class of 2019 either. This is a class that should bring in some serious playmakers who will take the Illini from being a solid program to a potential Big Ten contender. There are a lot of talented players in this class and Illinois is in the running for a good number of them.

Here are some of the top targets for Lovie and the Illini for the class of 2019.
