While the Illinois football team still needs to lock up a few more players for the class of 2018, the class of 2019 is still right around the corner.

There are many players who are on the radar for Lovie Smith and the Illini. Some of these players are local in the state of Illinois and others are from pipeline states like Texas. One of the top players from the Lone Star state is Marquez Beason.

Beason is a 5-foot-11, 173-pound cornerback from Bishop Dunne High School in Dallas, Texas. He is rated as a high four-star recruit who is the No. 82 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 10 player in the state of Texas.

How is Illinois in the running for this talented defensive back you may ask? Well, Lovie and the coaching staff have done some amazing work in Texas since arriving in Champaign. They know where the most talent comes from and they are trying to pick off some of the great players from this state.

Illinois has already put their mark on the state of Texas and, specifically, Bishop Dunne High School where Beason plays. The Illini snagged two big-time players from this high school for the class of 2018.

Kievan Myers was a three-star offensive lineman who was the No. 990 player in the class of 2018. He was a great get for the Illini offensive line and I can’t wait to see what he can do for this program.

Illinois also snagged Calvin Avery as well. He is a four-star defensive tackle who is the No. 205 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 25 player in the state of Texas. He will be a starter day one for this program and that is a bonus when recruiting Beason.

Having two former teammates playing for the Illini and the option to see immediate playing time has to be enticing for Beason. His recruitment is going to move fairly quickly as well. He announced on Sunday night that he will take his official visits in the spring due to the new early signing period. He will then commit during the summer.

The five official visits haven’t been locked in yet, but I am guessing Illinois is going to end up getting one. They will have a fight on their hands, though. Back in September, Beason cut his list down to six teams which included Texas, Arkansas, Washington, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Illinois.

Hopefully, the Illini can land one of Beason’s official visits this spring. He would be sensational for this program and would be a game changer on the defensive side of the ball.
