Dayven Coleman

There aren’t a ton of talented defensive players left in the class of 2018, but Illinois has their eyes set on one of the best in Texas.

The Illini have been recruiting Dayven Coleman for a while now and for good reasons. He is a three-star recruit who is the No. 748 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 55 safety in the nation. He has a lot of recruiting attention right now as well.

Back on July 6, Coleman decided to end his recruitment and committed to UCLA. After his commitment, more teams started to call, though. On September 26, Illinois extended Coleman a scholarship offer. He then decommitted from UCLA on November 3. Since then, he has been on official visits to Kansas State, Arizona, Colorado and Illinois this past weekend.

Coleman took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that he has decided to shut down his recruitment and that he has decided on a school. But, he won’t be signing until February 7, which is the traditional National Signing Day.

Illinois has a legit shot at landing Coleman. They need this kid because he is so talented and Illinois needs to replenish some lost players in the secondary. I could see Coleman getting some starts in year one for the Illini. He doesn’t have a ton of competition. Bennett Williams will start at one safety position and the other one is wide open.

Getting Coleman is a big priority for the defense right now. He would be a nice addition to what will be a dominant side of the ball in the near future.
