3. Khalan Tolson

Illinois lost some linebacker depth after the 2017 season. Tre Watson, Julian Jones and Christian Abercrombie all transferred out of the program. This means Illinois needed to find more bodies at linebacker.

The Illini were able to snag Khalan Tolson from the class of 2018. This was a big get for Illinois and someone who will contribute early on. He is also helping the pipeline to the state of Florida as well.

Tolson is a talented outside linebacker from Saint Petersburg, Florida. He is rated as a three-star recruit who is the No. 889 player in the class of 2018 and the No. 58 outside linebacker in the nation. Illinois secured his commitment over teams like Mississippi State, Michigan State and Michigan.

The recruitment for Tolson is about to officially come to an end, though. He confirmed with me that he will be signing his National Letter of Intent to play football for Illinois on Wednesday, December 20. This is a huge deal for the Illini because they can make sure they have depth for the future at linebacker.

Don’t overlook the impact Tolson could have for the Illini early on. Illinois lost a lot of depth at linebacker, and he should be able to compete for snaps year one.
