Illinois Basketball: 5 takeaways from the Illini win over Austin Peay
The Illinois basketball team did everything they could to lose the game against Austin Peay, but they still came away with a victory.
Illinois didn’t play well and this isn’t news to anyone. They were lethargic for most of the game and this could have easily cost them another tally in the win column. Thankfully, the Governors were a bad program. This enabled the Illini to come away with a victory and move to 7-3 on the season.
There weren’t many Illinois players who had a good game on Wednesday night. I think Da’Monte Williams had his traditional solid game. He got the start over Mark Smith and had a stat line of 5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. His all-around gameplay really helps this team. He is willing to do anything on the basketball court for the Illini to win.
Kipper Nichols also had a good game for Illinois. For some reason, he only played 19 minutes but he finished the game with 7 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. This kid is arguably the best player on the Illini team, so I am not sure why he isn’t in the starting lineup.
For everyone else, I was not impressed against Austin Peay. This was a really bad game and some of my takeaways reflect that.
