Tracy Abrams

Illinois received a talented point guard from the class of 2011 as well. Tracy Abrams committed to Illinois and he was a recruit everyone wanted from Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago.

Abrams was one of the best point guards in the nation. He was a four-star recruit who was the No. 58 player in the class of 2011. He had offers from teams like Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky. That is right, Illinois beat out a blue blood for Abrams.

The career of Abrams was a sad one, though. He started off with the Illini playing really well and the sky was the limit. He averaged 4.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game his freshman season. The following year he upped his production to 10.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

During his junior campaign, Abrams continued his solid production by averaging 10.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. His senior season was supposed to be the best and Illinois was supposed to be a good team. But, that never happened.

Abrams went down with an injury before his senior campaign started. The following year, he went down with another injury and missed the entire season again. His senior season finally came last year but his injuries clearly hampered his production. He averaged 8.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.

I really believe Abrams could have had a great career with the Illini if he had stayed healthy for his senior season. But, things didn’t work out that way. He will always have a special place in Illini fans hearts, though.
