Mycheal Henry

Arguably the biggest get for the Illini in the class of 2011 was Mychael Henry. He was a sensational small forward from Orr High School in Chicago.

Henry was the highest rated recruit in this class. He was a four-star small forward who was ranked as the No. 39 player in the class of 2011. He had some big offers from teams like Baylor, Marquette and Wisconsin. Weber and the Illini were able to pull him away from those other enticing offers and got him to come to Champaign.

Much like Shaw, Henry’s career with the Illini was short-lived.  He only spent two years with the program. During his freshman season, Henry averaged 3.2 points and 1.1 rebounds per game in the 8.1 minutes he received in each contest. The following season his minutes slightly increased to 10.6 but he didn’t really improve. He only averaged 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

After two lackluster seasons with Illinois and a head coach change, Henry decided to transfer out of the Illinois program. He didn’t travel too far, in fact, he decided to go back home and play for the DePaul Blue Demons.

With DePaul, Henry really started to blossom. He averaged 12 points and 5.4 rebounds during his junior season and 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds during his senior campaign.

Henry turned out to be a solid player for DePaul. I really wished he had stuck around to help the Illini, though. He was a talented player that was in the middle of a messy situation at Illinois.
