Illinois Basketball: Ayo Dosunmu would rewrite Chicago recruiting history
Kendrick Nunn
One of the prized recruits from the class of 2013 was Kendrick Nunn. He was a superstar shooting guard from Simeon High School in Chicago. He was the right-hand man to Jabari Parker.
Nunn came out of this class as a four-star recruit who was the No. 60 player in the class of 2013. He was wanted by many teams and had offers from programs like Memphis, Ohio State and UCLA. But, Illinois managed to snag this talented guard.
The career of Nunn started off well. During his freshman season, he averaged 19.5 minutes per game and in that time dropped 6.2 points in each contest. His career trajectory really skyrocketed the next few seasons as well.
During Nunn’s sophomore campaign, he averaged 11.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while seeing 30.2 minutes per game. He continued to impress the Illini faithful and his junior year was even better. He received 35.1 minutes in each game his junior season and dropped 15.5 points and pulled down 5 rebounds per contest. There were high expectations entering his senior season.
Nunn never made it to his senior season, though. He was dismissed from the Illinois basketball team before he could suit up for his final season in the Orange and Blue. From a basketball standpoint, this really hurt his career and the future of the Illinois basketball team.
The final season of Nunn’s career will now be spent with the Oakland Grizzlies. He has one more chance to show the world what he can do on the basketball court. The Grizzlies are projected to have a good year and I wouldn’t doubt if Nunn leads the team.
