Illinois Basketball: Recruiting pitch to Ayo Dosunmu
No. 2 Location
The final two teams vying for Dosunmu’s commitment are Wake Forest and Illinois. These two teams have some nice things to offer him if he commits to their respective program. But, the Illini have one thing that is clearly better than the Demon Deacons. That one thing is location.
Wake Forest’s basketball arena has an address of 2825 University Pkwy, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27105. This address is 704 miles away from Chicago, Illinois and it has some tolls you would have to pay. That is roughly an 11 hour and 6 minute drive for Dosunmu’s family to come see him play basketball.
What that means is, Dosunmu’s family can’t see him play on weeknights, which about 80-percent of games are played on weeknights. That is a guestimate, so don’t quote me. But, Illinois isn’t a very far drive compared to the haul to Wake Forest.
Illinois’ basketball arena, the State Farm Center, is listed at 1800 S 1st St, Champaign, Illinois 61820. When you put that address into Google Maps, it is only a shot down I-57 and only 135 miles. That comes out to a nice 2 hour and 20 minute drive. It is actually a peaceful drive, really.
That isn’t a bad haul and Dosunmu’s family could make that on a weeknight and potentially still get back home and be to work the next day. Illinois is located much closer than Wake Forest and I think that has to be a huge recruiting pitch to Dosunmu.
