The Illinois basketball team continues to recruit the class of 2018. There are a handful of targets and no commits to-date.

But, that doesn’t mean Illinois won’t sign a great class. The handful of players they are after really like the program and some have their top lists made and decision dates set. The Illinois coaching staff continues recruiting, though, and one of the players they have been after for a while is Talent Horton-Tucker.

Horton-Tucker is getting a visit from Illinois assistant coach Ron ‘Chin’ Coleman today. There is some worry about this visit because does that mean the Illini are uncertain of the other recruits such as Landers Nolley? Well, of course they are uncertain. Until a recruit makes a commitment, the coaching staff has to keep all avenues open.

What this visit means to mean is that the coaching staff doesn’t want to be left out to dry in the recruitment process. Horton-Tucker has always been a target for this staff and they can’t let players slip through the cracks. Until there are a certain amount of players committed, everything should still be on the table recruiting wise.

Overall, though, I really like Horton-Tucker and always have. If he would commit to the Illinois basketball team then I would be extremely happy. Pairing him up with a player like Ayo Dosunmu would be great for this program. I also think Horton-Tucker would fit nicely in the No. 3 spot that will need to be filled after this upcoming season.

Horton-Tucker has a bulldog mentality. He is gritty and can get to the hoop and that is what I like about his game. Illinois hasn’t had a ton of “edge” to their game with the previous two regimes, and Horton-Tucker would bring that grit and edge to the Illini.

I wouldn’t worry too much about Illinois cranking up the recruitment for Horton-Tucker. If anything, this is good news because they aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket. Get some of these talented recruits and the Illini will be set for the next few years.
