Illinois Football: 5 surprises on the Scout depth chart
3. Offensive line getting worked out
The offensive line is going to be extremely important this season. They really haven’t been great over the last few seasons but they have a few solid returning players and a couple new additions to the team as well.
Christian DiLauro starting at tackle is not a surprise at all. He is arguably our best offensive lineman this season and has potential to be an NFL Draft pick. Nick Allegretti starting isn’t a surprise either. He has a lot of experience on the offensive line and is projected to be our starting guard next to DiLauro.
Starting Gabe Megginson was up in the air but he earned the other starting guard spot on the team. The two surprises are who is at center and the other tackle position.
Doug Kramer is slotted to get the starting nod at center. He is a redshirt freshman so he hasn’t played a single down but Lovie trusts him to be the starting center for this program.
The other surprise, and something I am extremely excited about, is Larry Boyd is slotted at the other tackle position. He is a true freshman who stands at 6-foot-5, 360-pounds. This kid has the size to be a talented college player and having him protect the quarterback is exciting.
Illinois is trying to get the offensive line in order and I like what I see. We are young up front and I want to see progress made this season.
